welcome to 2011 - we have no snow

It's January 1st, 2011 - Happy New Year! The big melt in on here in our area! The river is high, not frozen. Our backyard is green, not white. This is certainly not normal for this area. The crazy thing is - it's five degrees out! Neil has his cell phone at his side, as work could call at any moment to close the road if the river comes up, and his fire pager in the other hand in the case that the tones go off for help.

This was our back yard last week!
Our backyard tonight..
We thoroughly enjoyed New Years Eve last night in the company of our friends. Amy, John, Phil, Isabelle, Keri, Dale, Haley, Neil and I brought in the New Year with a toast! We really are so lucky to have such great friends! Just before midnight, I was playing with the new camera, so excited with the great pictures of Haley I'd shot earlier and was about to go around the room and do couple shots when my camera screen says "cannot locate file" - great, brand new 16 gb sd card I got for Christmas - corrupted! Thank goodness I downloaded all of our Christmas pictures the night before, but I honestly had the best pictures I have likely ever taken of Haley on the corrupted card! What the H-E-double-hockey-sticks - I have the worst luck!

French Onion Soup in on the menu at the Milliner-Cowan household tonight, I love making it - it's so filling but really easy to make! I have mastered it without using a recipe now, and it's quite easy - and super good!

I'm sure some of you are wondering how the wedding plans are coming along, we've got the church, minister, hall and photographer booked. First priority for January is catering and my dress. We've been out shopping a couple of times, and have plans again for Monday with my Aunt Shirley will come along - she flies back to Whitehorse, Yukon so we're going to try to get a shopping day in before she departs!

Well everyone here is napping except me, why - because I work tomorrow and need to go to bed in good time tonight. Lennox is in a deep snooze whimpering some dream up, and Neil is snuggled into the love-seat.

  1. It's so strange to have no snow -- we have none either! Three weeks ago we were in a state of emergency trying to dig ourselves out, and now we have grass again. It's weird.

Anyways, I'm glad you're enjoying blogging :) I too am addicted, and I look forward to reading about all your wedding plans!

  2. It's so true Jen, it's crazy to think just last week we were shoveling every single day just to keep up! I am sure the winter will catch up with us again. Neil has enjoyed the hiatus of not having to go into work at 3-4am.

Anyways, thanks for your message! I look forward to keeping up with your family too!
